A record number of overnight stays in hotels was registered in October.

In total, there were around 2.4 million overnight stays at commercial accommodation providers in October 2021, according to figures from Statistics Norway (SSB). That is an increase of 6% from October 2019 and 57% more than in October last year, when large parts of Norway were closed.

Norwegian overnight stays in hotels increased by 11% from October two years ago, while the increase amounted to 32% for the campsites. Statistics Norway points out that 1 in 3 foreign overnight stays have disappeared.

“Even though the borders were reopened, many foreign tourists have not returned. Norwegians used hotels and camps so much that there was still a record number of overnight stays,” advisor Guro Henriksen in Statistics Norway stated.
