Minister of Finance Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (SP) promises that the government will do much more to bring electricity prices down.

“We must do much more in both the short and long term. In the short term, we have done a lot to mitigate the effects of the problem through housing benefits, student support, the support scheme that will help everyone, and a reduction in taxes on electricity,” Vedum told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

He added that he wants to keep the competitive advantage of Norway having lower power prices than Europe, and national ownership of hydropower resources.

In the long term, he believes it is a matter of increasing production in Norway and managing exports in a different way.
