Norwegian researchers, the private sector, and the public sector are set to receive NOK 470 million for climate research through the EU’s Horizon 2020 program.
“The results show that we have strong research and innovation environments, which can have good inputs for solutions to the climate challenges and which are attractive to collaborate with,” Minister of Research and Higher Education Ola Borten Moe (SP) stated in a press release.
Horizon 2020, the EU’s framework program for research and innovation, will allocate NOK 9.4 billion. Norway is set to receive 5% of the funds.
“The fact that Norwegian (research) communities are doing so well in competition with other European countries shows that the restructuring we have to go through also offers great opportunities for Norway,” Minister of Trade and Industry Jan Christian Vestre (AP) stated.
A total of 1,550 applications were submitted, and 72 projects received funding. Norway is involved in 23 of these projects.
