The Labor Party (AP) and the Center Party (SP) have made several promises to Norwegian farmers in the election campaign. The Norwegian Farmers’ Association now expects the new government to deliver.

“There are many promises to be acknowledged, and I am sure that it is demanding, but the SP and the Labor Party have been clear in the election campaign, and there are great expectations in agriculture now,” Secretary-General of the Norwegian Farmers’ Association, Sigrid Hjørnegård, told the newspaper VG.

Hjørnegård pointed out that both parties have been clear that they want changes in agriculture.

“High expectations”

“We have high expectations for a revenue boost here,” she said.

Election researcher Svein Erik Tuastad agrees that Vedum and the Center Party “must” deliver a “boost” for the farmers.

Secretary-General Anders Nordstad of the Norwegian Farmers’ and Smallholders’ Union also expects the new government to ensure that Norwegian food producers are given priority so that they can be on an equal footing with the rest of society.

Negotiations between the two parties will continue on Wednesday at Hurdalssjøen.
