Police are investigating more than 50 corona fraud cases – they believe that is just the tip of the iceberg.

Several of the cases, which concern the abuse of the wage compensation scheme, will be labor-intensive.

“The police will investigate corona support fraud for years to come when you take into account the investigation, follow-up, and subsequent trials. It is not a system that moves fast,” Petter Nordeng at Økokrim told Børsen.

At the request of newspaper Dagbladet, Økokrim pointed to an overview of the corona fraud cases being investigated today.

50 cases – for now

A total of 50 police cases have been identified, half of which have been registered at the Oslo Police District.

Nordeng thinks these 50 cases are just the beginning.

So far this year, the government has allocated NOK 126 billion in corona measures.

Økokrim estimates that 60% of the cases concern abuse of the wage compensation scheme.

As of today, more than NOK 8 billion in salary compensation has been paid to 74,000 companies for 393,000 employees.
