Norwegians used bank cards much less frequently in March this year than last year. At the same time, we traded for larger amounts each time we used the card.

A total of 131 million bank card transactions were made in Norway in March. This is 24 per cent less than in the same month last year, the payment service provider Nets writes in a press release.

However, the decline in turnover by bank card was only 14 per cent. That means we spent more money each time we used the card.

In total, card sales totaled NOK 46 billion in March.

There has also been increased awareness of contactless card payments to limit the spread of infection. In March, more than half of all transactions with cards were contactless.
