Norwegians used their cards for more than 54 billion in December

In the days from December to Christmas Eve, Norwegians used their debit cards to trade for more than NOK 54.5 billion, according to figures from Nets and Vipps.

This is a decrease of 1.4 percent compared to the same period last year, figures show.

From December 1 to December 24, however, 151 million card purchases were made, which is a growth of 0.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

The day with the most card use was Christmas Eve. At that time, 8.7 million card purchases were made and shopped for more than NOK 3.6 billion, according to Nets.

During the periods between 11am and 4pm on Christmas Eve, more than 300 debit card purchases were made per second.
