Cod adorn the 200 note, and all the other notes in the new series “Sea” also have maritime motifs.
– They are already dubbed “the world’s most beautiful banknotes.” The combination of retrospective, iconic cover design and modern abstract pixel pattern of notes backing is something completely new in the international banknote design, Norges Bank writes. The notes were presented on Tuesday.
Home design is based on a design proposal from Metric Design and Terje Tønnessen. They talk about key features of Norwegian maritime history.
Alongside the 200 note with cod, the 50 note has a guy, the 100 note the Gokstadship, the 500 note one Colin Archer skate and the 1,000 note a wave on an open sea.
The banknotes are pixellated behind the covers to form a contrast to the front pages. The commentary is designed so that the pattern will follow the Beaufort wind scale.
The new 100- and 200-notes will be the first thing to come into circulation, with planned release on 30 May 2017. Last out will be the 1,000 note with release in the fourth quarter of 2019.
