In the Norwegian government’s new crisis package for the business community, extra funding has been set aside for the municipalities that have been hardest hit by the corona pandemic, according to Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

Half of the funding will go directly to the municipalities, while the rest will be used to compensate local businesses, especially those that may fall outside the general compensation scheme, sources told NRK.

On Friday at noon, the government will present its new crisis package with a number of measures for companies, laid-off workers, students, and others affected by the pandemic. The total amount will be less than NOK 50 billion, according to NRK.

The measures will also address the decisions that the opposition in the Norwegian parliament (Storting) passed last week.

Solberg’s skepticism

At the time, Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) warned that those measures are not quality-assured. Among other things, some of the measures may have to be approved by the ESA.

So far, it is known that the government will extend the scheme of deferred payment of taxes and fees for companies hit by the crisis.

Furthermore, those who have already used the maximum period of receiving unemployment benefits will get the right to apply for unemployment benefits again, among other things.
