On Tuesday, a total of 194,600 job seekers were registered at the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV). That is 6,000 more than last week.

“The sharp increase is largely due to more layoffs as a result of stricter infection control measures in Oslo, Bergen, and Viken, among other places.

“In the last week, an average of one new person has registered as a job seeker at NAV every minute,” NAV chief Hans Christian Holte noted in a press release.

A total of 106,700 people are registered as completely unemployed, according to preliminary figures.

That makes up 3.8% of the workforce in Norway.
