From September last year to September this year, the number of jobs in Norway decreased by 2.8%.
Following the introduction of infection control measures against the corona pandemic in March, Statistics Norway (SSB) compiled experimental monthly statistics that show the number of jobs in the country compared with last year’s numbers for the corresponding month.
The experiment’s goal is to provide information on the major changes in the labor market due to the corona crisis.
Compared with September last year, the number of jobs decreased by 81,000 in September this year, a decrease of 2.8%.
Improvement
That is an improvement from June, July, and August, when the decline was 5.1%, 4.9%, and 3.5%, respectively.
However, some are struggling more than others to get back on their feet, and naturally, the decline is greatest for industries directly affected by infection control measures.
In accommodation and catering, the number of jobs in September was as much as 15.5% lower than in the same month the year before, while travel agency and tour operators registered a decrease of 11.5%.
