The number of overnight stays in hotels, cabins, and campsites increased by 44% from September last year to September this year, figures from Statistics Norway (SSB) show.

In total, there were about 2.6 million overnight stays in commercial accommodation in September this year, which is 800,000 more than a year ago.

“It is very close to the level before the pandemic. In September 2019, the total number of overnight stays was 2.8 million,” advisor Kristin Aasestad at the SSB stated.

But there are still few foreign tourists. The promising figures for Norwegian overnight stays are linked to a sharp increase in courses and conferences.

“There is an increase in the accommodation figures for all counties. This is, of course, good news for the industry, but it will probably take a little longer before we can report that the industry is healthy,” Aasestad added.
