In May, Oslo’s Vice Mayor for transport and environment Arild Hermstad of the Green Party (MDG) announced the City Council would ensure that people in Oslo get their bikes repaired free of charge.
It is one of several measures that will prevent more people in Oslo from getting infected by the coronavirus in public transport.
“In Oslo, some workshops will have an agreement with the municipality and offer free bike repairs,” Hermstad told newspaper Aftenposten in May.
How much the measure will cost taxpayers is unclear at the moment.
It is also not clear how the measure will be organized and implemented.
The City Council has not yet considered any measures for those who do not own a bicycle.
The city council’s goal is that 25% of all trips in Oslo become bicycle trips by 2025.
In 2019, the proportion of bicycle trips was 7.3%.
