Six out of ten female bartenders in Oslo have been subjected to physical sexual harassment over the past year, according to a new study.

300 bartenders have participated in the study at the Competence Center Rus Oslo, writes Aftenposten.

57 percent of women and 29 percent of men had been subjected to physical sexual harassment over the past twelve months, mainly by guests. Every third woman replied that they felt unsafe at work.

“The study will help the City of Oslo to initiate measures in the industry to prevent violence and sexual harassment and create a safer nightlife,” says Marthe Scharning Lund (Ap). The City Council will submit a new alcohol policy action plan for consultation.

“Now we can use the findings from this report in our work. Many in the hospitality industry are young people and have it as their first job. No one should have to experience this at work”, she says.
