Norway’s largest pharmacy chain, Apotek1, has announced the temporary layoff of more than 50 employees as a result of the Coronavirus crisis.

Pharmacies has been on the list of community-critical services during the Coronavirus pandemic and has been busy handling customers. Nevertheless, Apotek 1 seems to have to temporarily lay off some employees.

– “We see that pharmacies located in the mall are hit particularly hard due to fewer customers and less amount of work assignments,” says Gunn Grasbakken, HR director of the Apotek 1 Group, to Dagens Medisin.

A total of 56.4 full-time employee equivalents in 26 of 406 pharmacies have been given notice of layoffs or have been laid off.

Neither the pharmacy chains Boots nor Vitusapotek currently have plans for layoffs of their employees.
