The summer started early this year, thus creating an unusual early strawberries season and for strawberry sales to rocket in the fine weather.
“The nice weather has led the Norwegian strawberry season to start a little earlier this year. Rema 1000 has so far more than tripled the sale of Norwegian strawberries this year, and we continue to do our best to ensure that our customers find sweet Norwegian strawberries in all stores, says Ann-Kristin Pettersen, Communications Manager at Rema 1000, to the nation.
According to Communications Manager Kine Søyland in the Norwegian Group, more than 1,000 tonnes of strawberries have been sold in 2018. This is twice as much as at the same time last year.
The strong heat and drought in southern Norway will however certainly lead to the strawberry season of the year soon to be over.
“We expect the season to end earlier than last year, but maybe we will get a 20 percent increase in volume when the season is being tallied up, however, dependening on wind and weather,” says Søyland.
