Record sales of expensive luxury homes before the holidays

The sale of luxury homes in the Oslo area are selling fast. More and more people can afford to buy homes worth more than NOK 15 million.

Last year was a very good year for the luxury market, the real estate chains announced, but this year is going even better.

– “I am surprised at how quickly this market has recovered,” says CEO Grethe Wittenberg Meier in Privatmegleren to Dagens Næringsliv.

July has been an extremely strong month in the housing market, with a sharp price development in Oslo of as much as four percent, according to preliminary figures from DNB Eiendom.

The private broker has sold 189 homes over NOK 15 million so far this year, compared with 115 in the same period last year. 72 homes have been sold for more than NOK 20 million, compared with 44 last year.

Of the most expensive homes over NOK 50 million, they have so far sold seven this year, compared to four last year.

Christoffer Askjer, general manager and partner at Sem & Johnsen, tells DN that they have sold 117 homes over NOK 15 million between 1 January and 1 July. In the same period last year, they sold 102 homes in the same price range.

In Oslo, Asker and Bærum, DNB Eiendom has sold 26 homes over 15 million since mid-March. Last year, they sold 22 in the same period.
