Coop Prix and Rema were the two big losers in the grocery market last year. Coop’s low-price chain Extra was the big growth winner.

The grocery chain had a market share of 14.7 percent in 2019. This meant an increase of 1.4 percentage points, according to recent figures from Nielsen.

– “We are very pleased that Extra is the growth winner in market shares,” says Coop’s communications director Bjørn Takle-Friis to DN.

Extra grows partly due to the re-profiling of stores from the sister chain Coop Prix.

Coop Prix is the chain with the biggest drop. It was minus 0,7 in 2019.

Rema’s market share fell by 0.5 percentage points to 23.2 percent. Kiwi is now breathing down Rema’s neck with increases by 0.5 percent to 21.8.

Rema is still in first place with the largest market share of the chains, with Kiwi as number two, Extra as number three and Meny as number four with a market share of 10, 3 percent.
