Norwegians bought sex toys at record rates in 2020. The chain store Kondomeriet registered sales of almost NOK 200 million.
“Sales exploded after just one week of lockdown in March last year. The summer was absolutely extreme,” general manager Bente Helstad in Kondomeriet told newspaper Dagens Næringsliv.
Helstad started Kondomeriet 34 years ago. Turnover increased from NOK 138 million in 2019 to NOK 194 million in 2020, an increase of 41%.
Online sales increased by 60% last year, an increase of 10% from the previous year.
Figures from the website prisjakt.no show that interest in condoms and sex toys in Norwegian online stores increased by 952% and 825%, respectively, last year.
