The assessment will be presented at a press conference on Tuesday after Health Minister Bent Høie (Høyre) made a statement in the Storting on measures by the Norwegian health authorities to counter the outbreak of the virus.

“The Prime Minister and I will call for a press conference afterwards where we give the government preliminary assessment of the financial consequences of the coronavirus,” said Finance Minister Jan Tore Sanner (Høyre) in a statement to NTB.

He goes on to say that the government is now working flat out, that they are in close contact with banks and the business community, and in particular are watching the tourism sector, industry and other vulnerable businesses.

“We are now considering which financial measures can be targeted, and at what pace these may be phased in,” says the Finance Minister.

On Monday, there was a significant fall in the oil price and on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

“We have experienced such cases before and have experience with how we should handle them. In the first place, we must see if the oil price remains at a lower level or if it rises again,” says Sanner.
