Prime Minister Erna Solberg officially opened the new Holmestrand Station, this Saturday.

She arrived by train and even drove for a small part of the stretch. Solberg was praised for her driving skills by train driver Trond Inge Haugen, but reminded him that she prefers her job as Prime Minister: “I am not job hunting”, joked Solberg.

During the drive, the Prime Minister did get to admire the longest Pepperkake train shown at the station building. The train, made of the typical Norwegian Christmas cookies, is 370.75 meters long, and made by local schoolchildren, associations and the Norwegian bakery.

After greeting the bakers, Solberg opened the new Holmestrand Station from the roof of the station in front of 1.500 people. Minister of Transport, Ketil Solvik-Olsen, was also invited but he had to stay in Oslo.

The official opening was celebrated with buns and hot drinks as well as entertainment from the Norwegian band Plumbo, Melodi Grand Prix Junior and the comedian Christer Torjussen as host.
