Soon half a million cabins in Norway

Over the last five years, over 24,000 cabins have been built in Norway. At the end of the year, there were 467,600 cabins in the country, according to figures from Statistics Norway (SSB).

A total of 24,088 new cabins were constructed in the period 2014-2018, which corresponds to around 5 % of all cabins in Norway, the statistics from SSB show.

The vast majority of cabins are being built in Oppland and Buskerud – 31 % of all new cabins in the five-year period.

At the same time, the overview shows that most new cabins were built in the lowlands – between 0 and 50 meters above sea level. Here, 5,600 new cabins were built – 23 % of the total number of new cabins.

The highest cabin was erected over 1,600 metres above sea level.
