Norwegians shopped more in November than in October. Black Friday is probably helping move more of the Christmas shopping from December to November, according to Statistics Norway (SSB).

Turnover in stores increased by 0.9% from October to November this year. Sales of furniture and electronics in particular increased.

According to adviser Marie Skjeldås at the SSB, some of the increase in November, especially for electronics, may be due to a shift in the traditional Christmas shopping from December to November and important shopping days such as Black Friday.

According to the SSB, the trend of spreading the shopping day Black Friday over a week also continued in 2021.

For the fourth month in a row, sales of groceries declined. Nevertheless, Norwegians still buy more groceries now than before the pandemic.

In November 2021, grocery stores had a turnover of 3.7% more than in November last year.

The pandemic still has a major effect on what and where Norwegians buy. Fewer services and more goods have been purchased, and there is more shopping in Norway due to the decline in cross-border trade and less travel.
