Statistics Norway: 153,000 people unemployed in the third quarter of 2020

Unemployment increased in the third quarter of 2020 - a total of 153,000 people were unemployed (5.4%), according to Statistics Norway (SSB).

Unemployment increased in the third quarter of 2020 – a total of 153,000 people were unemployed (5.4%), according to Statistics Norway (SSB).

Unemployment rose by 1.6% compared with the same quarter last year, according to the Labor Force Survey (LFS) from SSB.

The number of unemployed people increased from 109,000 in the third quarter of 2019 to 153,000 in the same quarter of 2020. 

That corresponds to an unemployment rate of 5.4%.

Men had the strongest increase in unemployment from the third quarter last year to the same quarter this year, from 3.9 to 5.6%. 

Unemployment among women rose from 3.7 to 5.1% in the same period.

The figures also show that 2,706,000 people aged 15-74 were employed, which corresponds to 67.1% of the population in that age group. 

That is 1.5% lower than in the same quarter last year.
