Statoil CEO Eldar Sætre says the company is in deep mourning after the helicopter accident off Bergen Friday.

He has announced a company investigation of the accident.

“Yesterday, we experienced one of the worst accidents that has ever occured on Norwegian soil and in our company’s history. Statoil is currently a company in deep sorrow. Our thoughts go out to our concerned partners as well.
“Today, we are one family and stand together as an industry,” said a deeply moved CEO when he met the press on Saturday morning. He had been in the United States when the news about the crash came and cut his journey short immediately.
“It was shocking, and my first thoughts went to those affected and their relatives. One feels very far away and helpless when something like this happens. I have been in contact with emergency management all the time and came back as quickly as practical,” he says.
