Stores are constantly losing ground to e-commerce

In the third quarter this year, turnover from the retail trade decreased by 0.8 % compared to the same period last year. E-commerce increased by 10.2 %.

Sales in Norwegian grocery stores fell by 1.2 % in the same period, figures from Statistics Norway (SSB) show.

However, wholesale trade increased by 1.9 % in the same period.

In total, turnover in the entire retail industry was NOK 87,883 million in the third quarter this year, down by NOK 670 million compared to the third quarter in 2018.

Sales and repairs of motor vehicles increased by 3.8 % in the same period, according to figures from Statistics Norway’s turnover statistics for the retail trade.
