Summer temperatures have caused Norwegians to flock to the shops to buy meat for the barbecue.

“The May weather has boosted enormous sales of both barbecues and barbecue products,” said communications manager at Coop Norway, Harald Kristiansen to Nationen newspaper.

One of the most popular products this month has been spareribs. Coop has experienced a 55% increase in sales compared to May last year, while Menu can
report a 70% increase.

“We have sold as many spareribs in bulk now in May as we did all last summer,” said Nina Horn Hynne,Communications Advisor in Menu.

She added that the chain generally has historically high sales figures for barbecue food this month and mentioned that they have increased 40% on hamburgers
and 80% on barbecue sausages.

Rema 1000 also benefited from the weather, and said that their main meat and chicken supplier has had an “all time high” when it came to orders.
