Fewer crept under hotel duvets in January this year than in January last year – except in Svalbard. The rise in Svalbard was at 36 per cent from January 2015 to January 2016.
In total 6,700 lodgings were registered in the archipelago, according to figures from Statistics Norway.
The rest of northern Norway also see an increase in the number of hotel guests; almost 28,000 more – 17 percent – stayed in Northern Norway in January this year than in the same month last year. In the whole of Norway over 1.3 million stayed at a hotel in January 2016. This represents a turnover of 844 million, compared to NOK 852 million in the first month of last year.
