A Swiss investment company has notified the Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry Iselin Nybø (V) that it wants to buy Bergen Engines.

“Our company is geared towards taking care of and creating new jobs. We are not a very conventional investor or buyer,” CEO Gerry van der Sluys in Business Creation Investments AG told newspaper BT/E24.

Business Creation is a company that specializes in buying up factories that have run into problems. It manages eight companies.

In its letter to the Minister of Trade and Industry, the company stated that its offer is quite similar to the TMH International offer but that the price is “somewhat lower.”

Focusing on jobs

“We want to use more Norwegian suppliers and establish a production campus for start-up companies in the same segment. It is not just about money, but also about jobs and about strengthening the regional and Norwegian economy,” van der Sluys said.

The company submitted a bid for Bergen Engines last year, but it lost to a higher bid from the Russian-controlled company TMH International.

In March, the Norwegian government announced that it was stopping the purchase of the Bergen Engines company to TMH International due to national security concerns.
