Telia opened its 5G network in Norway on Tuesday. The new network is first activated in Lillestrøm and parts of Groruddalen in Oslo.

– “This is an anniversary in Telia’s and our customers’ history. At a time when we really see the importance of our digital foundation for keeping the social wheels going, we are incredibly proud to be able to open our 5G network to our customers, with Lillestrøm as the first place it is rolled out,” says CEO Stein-Erik Vellan of Telia Norway.

The company aims for up to half the population to have 5G coverage during next year.

– “This is about competitiveness for our country. The next-generation mobile network, 5G, opens up for the digital services of the future. This helps to ensure that Norwegian mobile networks will continue to be among the best in the world in the future,” says District and Digitization Minister Linda Hofstad Helleland (H).

Telia’s 5G network will be expanded throughout this year in Oslo, Trondheim and Bergen.
