Norske Tog (Norwegian Trains) have started the competition for the delivery of 200 new local trains which will go on the Stabekk – Oslo – Ski route.

“A new generation of local trains will provide better capacity, better comfort and better network coverage. This is about making people’s everyday travel easier and better. The first trains are scheduled to be delivered in 2023 and will be ready for traffic on the local train route Stabekk – Oslo – Ski from 2024,” says CEO Øystein Risan of Norske Tog in a press release.

Norske Tog is a state-owned company that owns most of the passenger trains previously owned by NSB.

Initially, Norwegian trains will buy 30 new trains, but the agreement has an option to purchase an additional 170 trains.

Today’s trains that run on the stretch have around 300 seats and around 270 standing places. The new local trains will be a maximum of 110 meters, which is 33 meters longer than today’s trains. Norske Tog hope that the total capacity of the new trains will be 700-800 passengers.

The target is to award a contract in December this year.

The basis for the competition is that the price is weighted 30 per cent, capacity and passenger experience are weighted 25 per cent, technical solutions are weighted 25 per cent and delivery is weighted 20 per cent.
