On Monday morning, the first oil from the new Johan Sverdrup field arrived at Equinor’s refinery at Mongstad outside Bergen.

The event was marked by an official opening at Mongstad where the first oil from the field arrived in pipes. The Minister of Petroleum and Energy Kjell-Børge Freiberg (FrP/Progress Party) was present.

The oil is transported in pipes from the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea, a distance of 283 kilometres. At the Mongstad plant, the oil is stored in caverns and prepared for further transport by ship. The first shipload is expected leave from the port and to customers in Asia this week, according to Equinor.
