The government has 242 million kroner unused for refugees

Refugees from Congo.

Due to a a record low amount of people are seeking asylum in Norway in 2019, a large part of the budget for asylum, refugee and integration measures are unused.

The sum that the Ministry of Education and Research and the Ministry of Justice have not been able to use is NOK 241.7 million, according to Vårt Land.

Yesterday the SV presented a proposal to Parliament, which proposes what the government should use the money for. The party asks the government to relieve Greece and accept unaccompanied minor asylum seekers and single parents for asylum treatment to the extent possible within a grant of NOK 241.7 million.

The proposal is expected to be voted down by the Right, the Progress Party, the Labor Party and the Center Party and the Christian People’s Party.

State Secretary Jens Frølich Holte (H) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tells Vårt Land that Norway is already helping Greece.

– “Finding good solutions for dealing with refugees and migrants arriving in Greece is a common European responsibility. Through the EEA funds, Norway contributes to strengthening all asylum handling in Greece,” he says.
