A five-year agreement between the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Statistics Norway (SSB) will provide new and improved border trade statistics.

The statistics will replace the current cross-border trade survey that the SSB publishes quarterly.

The new statistics are based on a new methodology, the Ministry of Trade and Industry reported in a press release. The statistics can provide more precise figures on how much and how often Norwegians shop across borders. It will be broken down into product groups.

“Developments in e-commerce from abroad and cross-border trade have consequences for value creation and employment in the shopping industry…

“It is therefore gratifying that we have a new agreement in place. That means that Statistics Norway will now make new official statistics on cross-border trade,” Minister of Trade and Industry Iselin Nybø (V) said.
