A total of 66 employees in the Sodexo catering company will lose their jobs. The reason is, among other things, that the Gyda platform is shutting down.

Another reason is that many floating rigs operate on shorter-term contracts than before, the newspaper E24 writes.

“We see that small operating companies only drill an exploration well or two on the Norwegian shelf before the rig is sent to storage. It is demanding for us who provide services for these rigs,” Leif Harall Salomonsen in Sodexo stated.

May Britt Lilletvedt, the offshore catering director at Sodexo, confirmed that the redundancies are mainly due to the Gyda platform shutting down.

“At the same time, the extra measures that have been in place due to the corona pandemic are ending,” Lilletvedt added.

Decline in drilling activity

She says they generally expect a slight decline in activity on the drilling side in 2022, but they also expect activity to pick up again in 2023.

“We hope to take on as many people as possible when we get more to do,” Lilletvedt noted, reminding that the dismissed workers will have priority for new positions for the next two years.

Sodexo has around 425 employees in offshore rotation.
