Adjusted for seasonal variations, the number of employed people in Norway increased by 42,000 from February to May 2021. With that, the number is approximately at the same level as before the corona crisis.

The number of employees in May this year was around 2,737,000, according to figures from the Labor Force Survey (LFS) from Statistics Norway (SSB). In January 2020, before the corona crisis, the figure was 2,749,000.

Unemployment so far in 2021 has been around 4.7-4.9%, which is about 1% higher than before the corona crisis.

From February to May 2021, there were only minor changes in unemployment, according to the SSB. The 142,000 unemployed in May accounted for 4.9% of the labor force.

“Many are still outside the workforce”

“It is very good to see that more people are now back at work. At the same time, there are still many who are outside of the workforce.

“Therefore, one of the most important things we are doing now is to facilitate that more jobs can be created, especially in the private sector, so that more people can be included (in the workforce),” Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Torbjørn Røe Isaksen (H) said in a comment on the figures.

In the survey, May is measured as the average of the period April-June, and February as the average of the period January-March.
