In the first quarter of this year, 8 percent of the population aged 22–59 years enrolled for formal further education. The share was the highest among the unemployed and women.
Of the unemployed, 13 percent stated that they have received further education during the past 12 months. This is almost twice the number of people who are employed (7 percent), figures from Statistics Norway (Statistics Norway)
Unemployed women are participating to the greatest extent – as many as 15 percent participated in formal further education in 2020.
The figures also show that it is most common to take further education in the 30s – in the age group 30-39 years, 13 percent participated in such further education in total – while among those unemployed the proportion was up 28 percent.
