The Roads Directorate has submitted a proposal for a hearing that will open to permit US-size car license plates.

Transport Minister Jon Georg Dale (Frp) says this is something that car enthusiasts have long been asking for.

“Having a car as a hobby should not be penalized, we must facilitate it,” he says in a press release.

The proposal applies to signs with a size of 30.38 by 15.36 centimeters, where numbers and letters must be placed on two rows.

In the consultation proposal, the Road Directorate also proposes several things that can make it easier for those who need the smaller license plate or American-sized license plate. They also propose to depart from the requirement that cars must be driven physically to a traffic station to prove the need for such license plates other than the usual sized plates. Instead, an image or picture should be good enough.

The hearing deadline is November 22. The plan is scheduled to be introduced in the spring of 2020.
