Last week, turnover in shopping centers was somewhat lower than the same week last year. In the last week before Christmas, Norwegians will spend over NOK 18 billion, Virke estimates.

“From experience, we know that very many people make many purchases during the last few days before Christmas and that almost a third of December shopping is done between today and Christmas Eve,” Jarle Hammerstad at Virke stated in a press release on Friday.

Last week, turnover at shopping centers fell by 0.7% compared with the same week last year. In the first two weeks of December, store sales fell by 0.1%.

The new measures have had an effect on the stores’ turnover, according to Virke’s member survey.

Norwegians are now expected to spend NOK 18.3 billion in the last week before Christmas, slightly lower than the same week last year when they spent NOK 19 billion.
