Around 30,000 children will march through Karl Johan on May 17 – for the first time since 2019. Registration figures are at record levels.

According to Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK), there have never been more children registered for the parade in Norway’s capital. A total of 130 schools registered for the parade.

Anna Dåsnes (V) is the leader of the May 17 Committee, and she says that it will be a traditional celebration with wreath-laying, a children’s parade, and a concert.

Oslo Mayor Marianne Borgen (SV) thinks the celebration will be a great experience.

“Having 30,000 children who celebrate our democracy, peace, and unity is extra important now when many people experience insecurity due to war and conflict,” she said.
