Tires often have a decisive impact on whether a traffic accident ends in fatality, shows an analysis of the State Highways Authority.

Tire and wheel fittings on the involved cars were a contributing factor in 17 of all accidents involving a total of 18 people who were killed last year, stated NRK news.

The findings come from the State Highways Authority’s annual in-depth analysis of fatal accidents in road traffic.

117 people died in traffic in 2015. Errors or defects in the vehicle was a contributing factor in about 31 percent of the fatalities.

– Tires are one of the factors that we often see are crucial for whether there will be a fatality or not.

We see this particularly in the winter months, says Department Guro Ranes from the road section of the State Highways Authority.
