A total of 13,000 nursing home residents in Denmark will be offered a third vaccine dose during September, and the vaccination will start on Thursday.
Around 170 residents of three nursing homes in Herlev in the capital region will be the first to receive the offer.
It is expected that all the region’s nursing homes will be covered within two to three weeks, according to Acting Deputy Director Helene Bliddal Døssing in the Capital Region of Denmark’s Emergency Preparedness Service.
Selected individuals with weakened immune systems will also be offered the third dose.
The vaccination rate in the country’s nursing homes is around 96%, but the infection has nevertheless increased sharply in recent weeks in several homes.
