The avalanche accidents in the last week have put a lot of pressure on the rescue and hospital capacity in Northern Norway, according to TV 2.
“We have to intensify the work of reaching (and informing) tour guides and all the guests who come here,” chief physician Mads Gilbert at the University Hospital of Northern Norway (UNN) told TV 2. He stated that more must be done to prevent such accidents.
“We have had to postpone operations and move patients to other hospitals due to a large number of serious landslide accidents,” he said.
Since last Sunday, four avalanches have occurred in Northern Norway, and fifteen people were hit by the avalanches. Most of them are foreign ski enthusiasts.
Gilbert believes that people from abroad who come to Norway and visit mountain areas are poorly informed about the dangers of such trips.
