The Prime Minister meets with crisis-struck farmers

Prime Minister Erna Solberg (Conservatives) and Minister of Agriculture, Jon Georg Dale (Progress Party), will next week meet with Norwegian farmers who are affected by the drought.

The pair will visit a farm at Kløfta in Akershus on Wednesday. There they will also meet with the farmers’ organizations, according to the Prime Minister’s program.

The leader of the Farmer’s Association, Lars Petter Bartnes, and leader of the Smallholders Union, Merete Furuberg, invited earlier this week the Norwegian Prime Minister to come on a visit.

– Many of our members are now in a desperate situation. Farmers are at risk of having to emergency slaughter their livestock because they do not have enough feed for their animals. Producers of cereals, berries, fruits and vegetables experience major crop losses. One of the country’s largest industries is in a deep crisis – we invite the Prime Minister to see it with her own two eyes, Bartnes states in a press release.
