The controversy over Finn’s new pricing model for housing ads is escalating. The Norwegian Real Estate Association (NEF), the Consumer Council, and the Homeowners Association have reported the site to the Norwegian Competition Authority.
In February, the three organizations announced that they were considering complaining to the authorities. Now, they have formally submitted a complaint.
In a meeting with the Norwegian Competition Authority on March 17, the three organizations presented a report from Menon Economics which concludes that Finn’s new pricing model increases costs for real estate companies, home buyers, and sellers – but not the value.
New pricing model
The background is that Finn.no introduced a new pricing model for housing ads in January, which involves three alternatives with different costs.
The NEF, the Homeowners Association, and the Consumer Council believe that the advertising model forces firms to choose the most expensive alternative unless they want to accept poorer visibility of the ads.
Finn has previously strongly reacted to the allegations.
Finn is in dialogue with the authority to contribute their perspective on the case and will have a meeting with them.
“We have confidence that the Norwegian Competition Authority will process the case in a correct manner,” Jørgen Hellestveit in Finn Eiendom stated.
They also had several meetings with the parties involved, including a meeting with the Consumer Council on March 24. Hellestveit described the meeting as good.
