The Dutch brewery giant Heineken is stopping the production, advertising, and sale of beer in Russia.

“We are shocked and saddened by the tragedy we are witnessing in Ukraine. We stand with the Ukrainian people and sympathize with all those affected,” an announcement from Heineken noted on Wednesday.

“The Russian government’s war against Ukraine is an unprovoked attack that can not be justified,” it further stated.

Heineken has been producing and selling beer in Russia for over 20 years, but is now “considering the strategic possibilities for the future” in the country.

At the same time, the brewery giant promised to step up support for aid organizations that assist Ukrainian refugees in Poland, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia.
