Neither the guards nor the police shall ensure that people do not gather in the centre of Oslo on 17 May.

“That’s not how we do it in Norway,” said Health Minister Bent Høie (H) on whether there will be barriers set up or whether guards and police should prevent a mass of people from gathering in downtown Oslo on National Day.

“We do this by agreeing that keeping distance and gather in smaller groups is what serves us all. We have shown that we are quite good at that, and I think we will do that on May 17, too, ” said Høie at the government’s daily press conference on the coronavirus situation in Norway.

“We must remember on May 17, 2020, as a May 17 which was different, and not a May 17 that caused us to lose everything we had gained before May 17. And I think that’s what the Norwegian people are prepared to do,” afded Høie.
