The education office in Oslo last year was notified of 73 children who were missing from primary schools. Most disappeared without giving notice.
Most of the 73 did not meet at school start, others were lost during the school year, while some were gone for longer periods.
‘’The problem is increasing. Most children leave without notice,’’said Margaret Westgaard, Director General at the Education Board to NRK news.
The agency said they often have to arrange for students to return after several years abroad.
Most of the children who disappear are children from ethnic minority backgrounds who are in their parents’ home country.
