Due to the new corona variant omikron, Japan reintroduced strict border controls and banned all foreign visitors from entering the country.
The stricter entry rules, which were announced on Monday, come only a few weeks after the rules were relaxed.
“We will ban entry for foreigners from all over the world from November 30,” Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said at a press conference.
This weekend, Japan introduced quarantine requirements for travelers from South Africa and eight other countries.
On Monday, Kishida stated that quarantine requirements would also be introduced for travelers from another 14 countries where the virus variant has been discovered.
At the same time, the Philippines has reversed a decision to open its borders to fully vaccinated tourists. Australia is also considering reversing planned border restrictions, while Israel has closed the border to all foreigners.
