NAV stabbing attack: Bergen police releases information about the man in his 30s charged with murder

A man in his late 30s has been charged with murder and inflicting grievous bodily harm after two employees were stabbed at NAV Årstad in Bergen on Monday.

The police in Bergen were notified of the stabbing attack at 10:02 AM on Monday morning and were on the scene at 10:06 AM. The man was arrested shortly after, and he cooperated with the police on the spot, prosecutor Christine Møen Wisløff stated at a press conference on Monday afternoon.

A woman in her late 50s died of the injuries, while a woman in her mid-30s suffered lighter injuries. The relatives have been notified

Suspect: A Norwegian citizen since 2019

The accused is a man in his late 30s, of foreign origin, and has been a Norwegian citizen since 2019. 

He is now being questioned by the police and will be produced for custody on Tuesday.

Guard present at NAV offices

There was a guard present at the NAV office on Monday, but police inspector Morten Ørn was not aware of whether the guard was present in the room where the stabbing attack took place.

“The interrogation of witnesses has started, and forensic technicians have started with investigations on the spot,” Wisløff said.

Several witnesses are said to have been inside the NAV office when the incident happened, and some are also said to have seen parts of the act itself.

“If anyone saw anything in the area around NAV Årstad in the period before 10 o’clock or has information that is relevant in the investigation, we ask that you contact the police via 47696060,” the police attorney said.
